In short, historically we could summarize design management development in five phases. From design as a function from the 1940s till 1950s, design as style from 1960s till 1970s, design as a process from 1980s till 1990s, design as leadership from 1990s till 2000s, and as design thinking from 2000s upfront (Borja de Mozota and Young Kim, 2009, p. 67-68).
