In design, we are able to name almost 40 career profiles. Human resource expert and author, Roz Goldfarb, explains that not necessarily all of these profiles are from design schools, but they definitely have an important role to play in the design process. Designers, therefore, have more than enough possibilities to develop their career, be that horizontally or vertically.

We have already shown in the post The designer career path the possible career path from a designer to a strategic design manager. We have to bear in mind though that only in design we are able to name almost 40 career profiles (Goldfarb, 2001). It is not necessarily that all of these profiles are from design schools but they definitely have an important role to play in the design process. These profiles are shown in the Figure below. And our guess is that the number of these profiles is growing. Therefore we could say that designers have more than enough possibilities to develop their career, be that horizontally or vertically.
